Organisation
For close to twelve years now, GalGael have been a well known landmark on the Govan landscape. During those years, we’ve built a reputation for making a real difference to the quality of life of some of the most hard-pressed members of our community.
In the mid ‘90’s, the late Colin Macleod, our inspirational founder, together with a group of unemployed people, set about trying to re-establish a sense of ‘people-hood’ and ‘belonging’ and this led to the founding of GalGael. Since that time we have been busy developing a unique approach. You could say we’re a visionary organisation with some big ideas. But more importantly we take a doggedly practical approach to things and recognise that we have to start small – to start somewhere. And that somewhere is Govan, Glasgow - where we are based.
GalGael Trust is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status. The organisation is managed day-to-day by a staff-based Staff Team who meet fortnightly. The Staff Team is responsible to the Board of Directors who meet quarterly and provide the organisation with governance and strategic direction.
We are currently funded by Lowlands and Uplands Scotland’s European Social Funds, Community Regeneration Fund through the Govan and Craigton Community Planning Partnership, Tudor Trust, Headley Trust, Robertson Trust and NHS Greater Glasgow.
Our Purpose
GalGael’s core purpose is to initiate social, cultural and ecological renewal projects; re-visioning inclusive forms of peoplehood and community in modern Scotland.
