GalGael

Colin

On 2 November 2005, we of the GalGael lost our inspirational founder, Colin Macleod. Those who met Colin were left in no doubt that this was someone you are only likely to meet once in a lifetime. There are those who knew him for moments and those who’ve known him years. We all wish we could have known him a bit longer but one thing is for certain, that we will ensure his legacy lives on in GalGael. Together, we will find a way to stay true to the course he set – eyes firmly set on a bright horizon, ears tuned to the song of the ancestors. You can read more about him on these pages.

In the poem that follows, a friend remembers what it was like to be in his presence:

Being with him:
Was to get your foggy,
mind-windows washed
Your eye-wipers turned full-on
Your heart pulled open and as under
it seemed the clouds moved faster across the sky
Did his pulse push them?
When he was around....
Your Doubts fell
Your Purposes appeared
Your Toes curled on the rim of excess
or success
a first flight
or last.
He was deft, ceremonial, unsentimental, fierce.
