Work

Too often, in today’s world, work has become mere waged labour, where drudgery has replaced joy. What’s more, work is hived off in business parks and industrial estates.

Is it any wonder that the work ethic has been so easily extinguished and is so hard to rekindle? GalGael is trying its best to turn this situation around by re-rooting work in the heart of the community at its workshop in Govan, in Glasgow.

Here, the method is simple; give folk a place to work, tools both attitudinal and practical and some basic respect and the rest comes naturally. In this small way, we are creating a new alchemy – taking what society has debased and made profane and bringing alive what is precious and sacred in both the materials and the person.

On these pages you can read about GalGael’s work, including Navigate the Future and our boats, together they set down a pattern of learning and productivity capable of reshaping identity and echoing through our lives, and filling it with creativity, purpose and worth.
