  1. What we DO
  2. Our Activities

Referring Someone

Making Just Futures has replaced our previous activities and the way these were accessed.

Let's describe what the new referral journey looks like.

Step 1: Weekly Welcome

We are creating times in the week where we can welcome new people and referrals. This replaces the tours that used to be the first step.
For now, this will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays. We’ll extend this as the project settles in. Please let us know if this presents difficulties and we can suggest some workarounds, such as book them in for community session one.
What happens: We’ll show them round and explain how more about Making Just Futures, including the skills sessions. If the person is interested and they think “it’s for them” then the next step is to book on to four Community Sessions.

Step 2: Community Sessions
Over these four sessions, we’ll share information about our values, agreements about mutual expectations, health and safety, how to use the space and play a role in things like keeping the kitchen in good order or recycling. We’re doing these in four bite size sessions that will expand on learning outcomes such as why recycling is necessary, basic health and hygiene - things that will have wider relevance for people’s lives.
These will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays - at various times. Someone might complete these within a week or two. Or take their time if they have a lot else going on. During this time, people are welcome to come to various other lighter-touch activities such as shared meals (Wednesday lunchtimes from 12.30 pm and Thursday evenings from 6.30 pm) or gatherings, discussions and events. You’ll find the programme for these on our website - here.

Step 3: Community Membership
Once someone has completed these they're a member of our learning community and they can book on to our various skill sessions and access shared resources. Together with the support you give them, we’ll help folk to chart out an appropriate learning experience that suits their capabilities, capacities and availability.

What now?
We’d love for you to start chatting to those you support about Making Just Futures. If you think they would get something from the offer - please book them in for a Wednesday Welcome session - see the links to available sessions at the joining section here.

If there are any allergies or access requests we should be aware of, please let us know in advance and we will do our best to accomodate.

Please be aware that we usually have a few (well behaved!) dogs on site, and with us being in an active workshop there will be doors open and can get quite chilly so please dress appropriately. If this presents any difficulties for you, please get in touch and we will do what we can to help you.

Let us know if you would like us to send out flyers to hand to those you work with. Email [email protected] with the address to send them to.

Lastly, because this is all new we also wanted to encourage you to let us know how it’s going from referrers perspective and for those you’re supporting. What works and what doesn’t. This will be super helpful as we adjust the design of the project to work for all, or at least to attend to as wide a range of needs as possible.

WE'LL BE CLOSED FOR THE NEXT WEE WHILE... Glasgow City Council has declared the derelict building next door unsafe and have suspended access to the workshop. We'll let you know as soon as we get an update but for the time being we need to suspend much of our workshop activity - including Practical Woodwork and Thursday evenings 🥲

And so we thought what more appropriate way to mark all this than to declare a new free state - returning to our roots in Pollok Free State - an anti motorway camp. A playful, creative exploration of power and legitimacy in the face of climate emergency. An act of solidarity with those communities struggling for recognition of their territories.
